Job Description
As an
Environmental Management Specialist, you will participate in the delivery of technical environmental compliance and environmental management services relating to land development: helping our infrastructure and built environment clients in the identification, prioritization, management, and assurance of environmental legal and other obligations and imperatives.
Responsiveness and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities will be critical to your success. Our team and our client projects move quickly, so we need someone who builds trust through competence, and brings initiative and tenacity to everything they do.
Key Responsibilities
Your specific responsibilities will include:
- Provide support to our existing team on technical projects relating to environmental (and/or safety) management and compliance in the context of local, provincial, and federal requirements
- Work (occasionally on a secondment basis) with our clients on specific environmental (and/or health and safety) management, inspection and investigation programs
- Participate in the preparation of environmental (and/or health and safety) management, permitting and due diligence documentation
- Participate as part of a team to present and follow through on results of investigations, inspections and audits
- Participate in audits and assessments of environmental (and/or health & safety) management systems and management plans in support of land development projects
- Help expand the scope of our EHS/ESG service offerings to mining, industrial, energy and infrastructure sector clients, with the aim of enhancing SLR’s market presence and client portfolio, and growing revenue with key clients

Qualifications
- A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in planning, environmental planning, geography or another related discipline
- 8+ years of experience required in a relevant field, ideally in a mix of consulting and/or industrial environmental management role (corporate advisory, or consultancy)
- Knowledge of and experience with federal and Ontario environmental policies, procedures and legislation
- Ideally, knowledge of and experience with Ontario’s Transit Project Assessment Process, GO Transit Class EA Document, and Environmental Assessment Act (Ontario)
- Experience working on transit / linear infrastructure projects
- Team player with excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Strong technical writing skills, with an ability to synthesize technical information and develop plain language summaries
- Ability to travel within Canada periodically, as required.
