You will be working within the External Strategy Management team (ESM). In February 2020, the ESM team started as a separate team within APG asset management with the objective to ensure an independent assessment of external managers at strategy level. All external manager selectors for liquid asset classes and Alternative Alpha (a.o. hedge funds) have been centralized within ESM since then. The current team is composed of approx. 30 investment professionals.
APG is looking for an external manager selector with a passion for Responsible Investing to be the Responsible Investing (RI-) specialist for its ESM team. The RI-specialist is responsible for coordinating, implementing and safeguarding that the external managers in our strategies comply with the RI requirements that are set by the regulator and our clients. The total assets managed by ESM are over $ 100 bln and we work with all asset managers across the world. In your role you will learn all about the diverse aspects of responsible investing applied by asset managers across the world and you will get a chance to work alongside experienced professionals in this area.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Support Guide and support the ESM-team in understanding responsible investing and changing regulation & client requirements on this subject
- Maintain Responsible Investing implementation guidelines for the ESM-team
- Work together with the portfolio managers in the various ESM asset classes on assessing the quality of the RI implementation at the external managers
- Work with the portfolio managers to screen and analyze impact-, sustainable investments- and taxonomy aligned- investment products
- Be pro-active in bringing new developments in your area of expertise to the ESM team and translating these into investment opportunities that combine financial- and positive impact returns
- Coordinate the implementation of new RI requirements across the ESM team
- Maintain Responsible Investing implementation guidelines for the ESM-team
- Represent ESM in the various APG committees and Boards where new policies are drafted and new regulation is interpreted.

Job requirements:
The RI specialist we are looking for is a team player that can also work independently. The ideal candidate should have experience in manager selection in at least one but preferably multiple asset classes and experience with responsible investing. The candidate should be able to communicate clearly and have a critical and hands-on mentality.
Furthermore, we ask for:
- Academic degree and a CFA or equivalent charter holder;
- At least 10 years of relevant work experience in the fields of asset management;
- Preferably excellent communication skills in both Dutch and English, verbally as well as in written form;
- Working experience in manager selection;
- Passion for responsible investing in all its aspects.
