Sustainable investment plays a pivotal role in Ivanhoé Cambridge’s strategic plan. Our portfolio will grow in the coming years, and so too will our ambitions to lead in critical areas of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) matters.
The mission of the Sustainable Investment team is to guide and coordinate Ivanhoe Cambridge's approach to creating positive social and environmental impacts. To this end, the team works closely with internal teams and external partners on all aspects of the real estate investment cycle: from the integration of ESG criteria into the investment and asset management process, to the creation and implementation of major initiatives aimed at improving the environmental and social impact of our portfolio while maintaining good financial performance for our beneficiaries.
Reporting to the Senior Director, Sustainable Investment you will consolidate and evolve our practices and skills in ESG integration in our investments for assets located on the American continent, with a focus on the Americas.Your day-to-day activities will include the following:
- Lead the continued integration of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors into the investment process with a particular focus on our Canadian assets (acquisition, asset management, development) in collaboration with our internal teams and external partners and stakeholders;
- Contribute to the development of low-carbon roadmaps and transition plans across the portfolio of assets, complete with technical and financial impact analysis of decarbonization for our assets;
- Engage with our investment partners and managers to foster value-accretive ESG improvements across our property portfolio;
- Carry out analyses, monitor trends and performance, and make recommendations in relation to ESG themes, or particular sectors or country regions in which we invest;
- Support the evolution of our sustainable investment strategy and the implementation of the related action plan;
- Advise the executive committee on strategic issues related to ESG and promote ESG practices throughout the organization;
- Participate to an internal community of stakeholders playing an active role in sustainable investment;
- Help build internal knowledge and skills regarding sustainable investment and ESG (training, awareness, tools, etc.);
- Contribute to monitoring the ESG performance of the Ivanhoé Cambridge portfolio;
- Represent Ivanhoé Cambridge in external events and participate in sector-specific working groups.
The skills of success
- Master’s degree in a relevant discipline;
- CFA, LEED AP, WELL AP is an asset
- Seven to twelve years of relevant experience;
- Technical expertise and good understanding of building-level systems and equipment that contribute to the environmental performance of a real estate asset (Construction and development)
- In-depth understanding of, and keen interest in, the ESG-related regulatory and industry frameworks as they apply to real estate;
- Understanding of carbon impacts and experience in the development and implementation of carbon reduction strategies across multiple real estate sectors and markets;
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills;
- Capacity to lead inter-team projects and work effectively with internal and external partners;
- Strong powers of influence;
- Excellent computer skills, particularly with Excel, Powerpoint, Power BI and others
- Solid communication skills in French and English. Oral and/or written interactions with external partners based outside Quebec (service providers, law firms, peers, bankers, brokerage firms, credit analysis firms, credit agencies, etc.).
